Established in 1986 in technical and financial collaboration with Geosource Inc USA (subsequently acquired by HGS Inc USA), HGS (India) Limited (HGSI) is a specialized manufacturer of geophones, geophone strings, seismic cables, geophysical connectors, and parts and accessories for geophysical equipment. Operating within the energy and geoscience sectors, HGSI’s core value proposition centers on manufacturing high-precision sensors and signal transmission systems that acquire, record, and transmit ground vibration signals used for processing, interpreting, and analyzing subsurface geological structures. The company operates under a B2B custom-engineering business model, developing tailored solutions according to client-specific technical requirements and specifications.
The company’s wide-ranging offerings are deployed across diverse end-user industries, including Oil & Gas Exploration (2D and 3D seismic surveys), Civil Engineering (structural health monitoring of bridges, dams, and railways), Earthquake Seismology (high-sensitivity sensors for crustal studies), Defence Research, Mineral Exploration, Vibration Monitoring, Geophysical Seabed Surveys, Geothermal Exploration, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). HGSI serves global seismic contractors, major oil companies, infrastructure developers, and academic research institutions. Recognized as a One Star Export House and a 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) by the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), the company maintains a broad global reach across 47 countries, including the United States, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland, Estonia, and Australia. In FY26, exports accounted for 84.22% of revenue from operations (rising to 98.52% in the 1-month period ended April 30, 2026), while domestic sales in India contributed 15.78%. In 2015, HGSI established a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary, HGS Products B.V., in the Netherlands to serve as its European sales, marketing, and customer support hub.
HGSI’s primary manufacturing facility is located at Plot No. 158, Sector 4, Industrial Estate, Ch. Devi Lal IMT Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana (covering a plot area of 4,050 sq. meters with a built-up area of 4,230.45 sq. meters). To optimize operational efficiencies, the company consolidated its operations by surrendering its secondary unit at Sector-5 IMT Manesar in FY24. The Manesar facility is equipped with specialized machinery including precision assembly lines, vertical and horizontal injection molding machines for ruggedized casings, wire and cable extrusion lines (stranders, braiders, extruders, winders), and automated coil winding and magnetizing equipment. The plant features in-house environmental stress screening and harmonic distortion testing infrastructure, ensuring sensors operate reliably in extreme thermal environments ranging from -40°C to +200°C. Quality and environmental standards are certified under ISO 9001:2015 (by TÜV SÜD) and the ZED Gold Certification (“Zero Defect Zero Effect”) by the Ministry of MSME.
As certified by an independent Chartered Engineer for FY26 (ended March 31, 2026), the annual installed capacities and actual capacity utilization rates across HGSI's primary product lines were as follows:
- Geophone Strings/Harness: Installed capacity of 72,000 Nos; actual production of 9,814 Nos (13.63% utilization rate; compared to 27.07% in FY25).
- Seismic Cable (Nos): Installed capacity of 7,200 Nos; actual production of 1,751 Nos (24.32% utilization rate; compared to 64.99% in FY25).
- Seismic Cable (Mtrs): Installed capacity of 9,000,000 Mtrs; actual production of 45,858 Mtrs (0.51% utilization rate).
- Geophysical Connectors: Installed capacity of 240,000 Nos; actual production of 265 Nos (0.11% utilization rate).
- Parts/Accessories of Instruments (including Geophones, Seismographs, Seismometers, Accelographs, Geophone Testers, etc.): Installed capacity of 864,000 Nos; actual production of 498,217 Nos (57.66% utilization rate; compared to 80.54% in FY25).
Research & Development and engineering expertise represent core operational pillars for HGSI. Supported by an in-house team of 162 permanent employees (including 101 in manufacturing and tool room, 11 in quality control, and 10 in engineering), the company continuously innovates sensor sensitivity, frequency response, noise reduction, and signal integrity. Recent R&D achievements include the development and initial commercial launch of the HG-5VHS (Very High Sensitivity) and HG-2 (Low Frequency) advanced seismic sensors. Out of its IPO fresh issue proceeds (₹27.91 Crore at cap price), HGSI has earmarked ₹15.05 Crore toward replacing aging plant and machinery with advanced tandem extrusion and molding equipment, ₹3.26 Crore for constructing 14,425 sq. ft. of additional factory space on the 2nd floor at Manesar, and ₹1.05 Crore toward setting up an in-house gold electroplating facility for backward integration to eliminate third-party outsourcing of connector contact plating.
Financially, HGS (India) Limited reported total income and net profits of ₹37.93 Cr and ₹4.00 Cr (FY24), ₹53.45 Cr and ₹10.51 Cr (FY25), ₹48.91 Cr and ₹11.64 Cr (FY26), and ₹3.79 Cr and ₹1.11 Cr (1M FY27 ended April 30, 2026).
